What You Need To Know About Osmo Toys

If you are not familiar about Osmo toys, then it is the perfect time for you to take time and read this article. All children in this modern times love to play games on tablets right?

And a lot of parents just fell guilty because they are letting their children to play idiotic games and children’s time gets wasted because of playing pointless games on tablets.

But here Osmo steps in  – because there was no STEM value added for tablet game play,Osmo invested their time and belief to invent something that could benefit children while they play games on tablet.

Please read this article ” What you need to know about Osmo toys” and I believe you will be thrilled that there is something in this world that can educate children through games on a tablet. Stay tuned.

What Is Osmo ?

Osmo is a gaming accessory for children.

It is designed with reflective artificial intelligence – a reflective AI bridges the real and digital realms through playing games in an osmo app.

Basically what that means is that you need a base and a reflective mirror. Base is Osmo’s Tablet stand, and if you want to play games via Osmo app you need this base.

The second thing – reflective mirror, has to be attached on tablet’s camera. Then, when you want to play games in an Osmo app, this reflective mirror is a must, because osmo games are designed to be played physically on the table area in front of the tablet. What it does is that reflective mirror reflects objects form the table with a camera, and an osmo app recognizes objects and mirror it into a game.

But everything to work smoothly, you need original Osmo sets/toys. But the most crucial things to play Osmo games are a Base and reflective mirror – they are required for all games.

Works Only On iPad And Fire Tablets

This is a bit incorrect – it works on IPhone ans well, but there is an Osmo iPhone base instead of iPad base. IPad base is for iPad, Fire base is for Fire tablets.

The biggest con and why it will never be a 10 out of 10 stars is because it does not work with android tablets, which really awful, I really don’t understand why is that so – and they won’t go for android in near future.

Which iPad, iPhone and Fire tablet generations generation could be used for playing an Osmo?

  • iPad 2
  • ipad 3rd generation

How To Start With Osmo?

So basically what you need to know is that you don’t need to buy all kits, or games, because. You can choose between kits and games. To clarify – kits do have a reflective mirror and a base for a tablet or iPhone, depends on what you choose, beside those basic stuff you need to have if you want to play with an Osmo, every kit has games included. The more expensive kit, more games you get.

But you don’t need to buy more than 1 kit – because you will prepay it because every kit has abase and reflective mirror, and you don’t want to spend money on additional kits – that’s why you can purchase games, you don’t have in kits.

You can as well avoid buying a kit, and buy just a base you need ( for an iPad, Fire tablet or iPhone), and additional games. But it will cost you more to buy base and games separately, if you will buy more than one game.

So you can buy independently Osmo kits, Osmo games or just an Osmo base.

Osmo Kits, Games and Bases

I will not get too much into every game how it works, but I will write a description. All you need to know about games is that it is always the same pattern while playing with an osmo – you have to put “right” object in the table area where camera can captures objects.

I wrote an article about Osmo genius kit, if you want to read just click here, and it will take you to an article.

Games

I have captured all games within Osmo and write a description for each game. Every game is available to buy independently.

  1. Tangram -you put wooden colored pieces together se they to match with shapes on-screen
  2. Numbers – with easy mathematics you put numbers on tiles, to match a result on screen, and everything that involves numbers
  3. Masterpiece – THIS ONE IS GREAT -take a picture of anything you want, and then Osmo app filters it so the main lines are outlined, and then you can draw this picture, looking into a tablet and see how your hand is supposed to draw on a paper.
  4. Words – Guess the word that is on the picture, and put tiles with letters onto table area, and fill the blank dots with letters in the picture
  5. Newton game – get to know Newton laws with a drawing game – pretty cool game
  6. Monster – Basically you draw what monster tells you to, and take into a screen
  7. Coding Awbie – this one is really good if you want to teach children basics about coding – you put blocks, that are basically codes on area, and what it does is that you code Awbie’s movements towards strawberries
  8. Detective Agency – You search for clues over missing pets on the map – you get different physical maps, and then you become a detective.
  9. Hot wheels mind racers – you get physical two track launchers for cars, that after you shoot cars, they go into a hole, and it continues on-screen. Quite good game.
  10. Super studio Disney – you draw on the physical board by instructions scenes and the story come to live.
  11. Pizza Co. – Make pizzas for pets, and learn how to deal with money
  12. Coding jam – Code with blocks like in coding Awbie, only you put coding blocks to make music.
  13. Coding Duo – Again code with blocks to manipulate with two characters to play a game

PROS

  • Great STEM toy in all STEM fields – science, technology, engineering and mathematics
  • Good to to learn problem solving, creative thinking, critical thinking, social skills
  • Healthy tablet playing toy

CONS

  • Price – too expensive
  • Android users are left out – really awful

Conclusion

Where to buy:AMAZON

My rating: 8 out 10

Overall it is a great kit/toy to have, my children are playing games on tablet too much and that would be just perfect for them – finally a game that would benefit and educate them. But their a huge flaw – I only have Android tablets, so as much as it is good a great toy a lot of people ( kids ) can’t use it.

If you have any question or a comment, please write me in the comment section below and I will be happy to reply.

  1. Osmo Toys sounds like a great way of learning and developing STEM learning, it is practical and physical as you can interact with the game as if it is in front of you. This seems like a very intelligent way of playing games as it will help stimulate the learning development within children

  2. Aww man! Is Osmo only for Apple products and Fire? I’m glad I didn’t get it for my daughter as I thought it was its own device like a LeapFrog. I’ve really wanted one for her but am sort of disappointed. Do you know something like this that will work for Android devices? Also what age group/range is this for? I guess I could get an iPad if I have to, haha!

    1. Hi! Well im not sure if there is something like Osmo.. If I do get An info I’ll contact you.

      Cheers,

  3. Early childhood learning has reached a new level. It is so obvious, like something that should have been done a long time ago. Now when kids spend hours on their devices we know that they are being intellectually stimulated and challenged. These features will also stimulate creativity and innovative thinking in children. The more they learn the more they will want to learn. I love the concept of Osmo toys and the fact that you are bringing this information to light in a clever and simple way. Thank you and continue with the good work.

  4. I have never heard of osmo prior! I know of leap tablet and other similar “learning tablets”. This is quite interesting – a slightly unique option compared to others. I think this would be a great learning tool for kids. It is really a bummer they aren’t considering android as I know a lot of people, including myself, that use android! Hopefully they will reconsider. What age group is recommended to benefit from this toy? Thanks for the info!
